service

One thing you can count on from a Red Cross community is a deep commitment to service. Many ARCAN members continue to support the Red Cross, rolling up their sleeves to volunteer or make blood or financial donations. Many more have taken their passions and prowess to other great causes, some even creating brand new organizations that are taking up the challenges of a changing world. The legacy of service among our alumni is impressive - it's our one sure thing.

ARCAN provides ways for members to continue making a difference for good with opportunities to volunteer and support ARCAN, volunteer with and make blood and financial donations to the Red Cross, join projects and events in your local community, and explore exciting causes that your fellow alumni are part of.

Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Texas on July 8

AARP connects you with volunteer opportunities near you

Nearly 400 trained Red Cross disaster responders are already supporting relief efforts across Texas

As Red Crossers know, the most effective way to help those impacted by Hurricane Beryl is to register with a voluntary or charitable organization already working in Texas.

If you are trained in Red Cross disaster relief, the Red Cross may need your skills and experience as they deploy to Texas and other active disasters.

If you wish to volunteer through another organization, Texas Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD) has a list of VOAD members accepting volunteers.

Volunteering with an organization has three career-related benefits, according to Dee C. Marshall, certified life coach and leadership trainer.

  1. It’s a fantastic way to sharpen the skills you already have.
  2. It gives you an opportunity to work on new skills you want more experience with.
  3. You can highlight these newly polished skills on your résumé.

AARP's volunteer page posts specific openings as well as opportunities searchable by community.
